Post by Tom 480F »

When I was a young fireman at Srtatford Depot in the 50's there was a Thompson B1 61057
all sheeted up at the back of the shed it was a write-off.
Can anyone out there throw some light on this subject as to were and when the accident happed.

Tom.

If you search the B1 number on this forum, the topic has already been discussed.

Briefly, the loco and tender were cut up at Stratford after damage in collision at Marks Tey 7/3/50 - the boiler was re-used. Photo yeadon Vol. Six, page 99.

Hi,

Have a look at November's steam World, there is a photo and caption of the very same loco on P 28/29.
Recounts the details of it's sad end.

I was taken by my Grandfather to view the wreckage - from a very safe distance.
Regrettably the memory is very blurred as I was just turned four years old . .
