Good morning all on a beautiful day
Back in March, I asked about twin Lamp irons on GNR locos. John Coffin pointed me to the RCTS "Great Northern Locomotive History" by Groves. I managed to buy the last set available at a cheap price. A great buy and it explains the twin lamps codes in GNR days, but it stops at 1923.
Since then I have seen a pic of an A1 (1924 batch) with twin lamp irons on the tender. I guess it was an oversight and the original GNR drawings had not been altered with the formation of the LNER.
Does anyone know if this applied to all the coal-rail tenders or was it an isolated occurrence?
Have we all been modelling A1's with the wrong tender details?

Re: Twin Lamp irons on Pacific tenders
G'day all
I have just looked in the green book and fitting of twin lamp irons ceased in 1931.
However, it does mean that any tender built before then would have twin lamp irons. So it looks like my Coal-rail tender will have to be modified.
Should have looked in the green book before jumping in with the above posting.

This has been brought up before on the Forums re 60009's tender which still has the two lamp irons, having been behind 10000/60700 at one time.

G'day all
Thanks StJ, it's one of those mornings that I should have stayed in bed. Everything is going wrong, I've just messed up a gearbox trying to sort out a binding coupling rod, and had the coffee pot going without any coffee.
I did a search for lamp irons before I posted the first item, and found my mention of the GNR lamp codes, but nothing on tenders.
Its interesting that you mention 10000/60700's tender as I have a SEF white metal kit in the roundtuit queue. I shall have to fit twin lamp irons to it when it does get built, but it won't be started today with the luck I'm having.
It's amazing how this forum has given me a thirst for knowledge regarding modelling, that was lying dormant for many years. I used to be quite happy with a rough chassis and a running number of any class member. Now I look for details of a particular loco and try and model that, getting it as accurate as possible.
Thanks to all

Now here is food for thought. Here is a photo of the first corridor tender. Two lamp irons on LHS but, was one to deputise for the central one which could not be employed with a Pullman gangway?
