Doncaster P2 locomotive Trust

Post by 60800 »

I'm not sure if many others have heard about this but a charitable trust in Doncaster is building a reproduction P2 No.2001 'Cock O' The North' in her 1938 condition with Bugatti nose. They've been re-creating works drawings in CAD format for a year or two now and have placed an order with TATA Steel Europe for the cutting of the main frames. These will be on display in the NRM at York for a period whilst a suitable home base for either storage of parts or construction of the locomotive is secured. I've been following this keenly, but that's about as far as the available information goes, and I know absolutely nothing about the people conducting the project, so I'd be interested to hear if anyone knows anything further.

That particular pot has been on slow-simmer for several years. An older acquaintance of mine, ushered into immortality (or oblivion) possibly four or more years ago knew about this well before his demise.

I do think this group will fall by the wayside. With the A1 people building one i think they will unfortunately get pushed out as people will go with the group with a proven track record. Mores the shame as a streamlined version would look good.

They have increasing support, with backing from the NRM and a growing team of trustees. I know they intend to find premises in Doncaster, but reckon it will end up being built at York once 103 has been finished and cleared out.

Steam Railway Magazine helped as it seems several interested people headed for the Doncaster site, Facebook page due to confusion between who was who.

I'm 65 and if they intend building it at York, after finishing Scotsman, it's not likely I'll still be around. The Scotsman Saga will probably outlive me!!!
