I have recently heard an interesting story about Silver Link and wondered if anyone could throw any light on it?

Sometime in 1935 Silver Link was positioned in the yard close to the old maltings on the up side.
Locals came to see the locomotive and children were provided with "Silver Link" toffees, does anyone know about this?

Assuming that this was after the record run in September, did she go on some sort of tour of the main line perhaps as a publicity stunt?

The person who told me about this said it was more or less where Mallard was positioned on 7th - 8th September 2013.
I.E. The area between the Yard Box and the old Maltings on the up side.

Hmm, it says something about a 'Silver Series'. Wonder if that means a range of beers named for our other 'silver' A4s. Would be a nice little collection of labels, or even beermats.

A regular Ossett beer is Silver King but I believe not named after the engine were as Silver Link is, a picture of the engine appearing on the pump clips. Unfortunately its not one of their regular beers

The link to beers is very interesting, but (getting back to chew chews) my main line of enquiry is to find out if "Silver Link Toffees" were provided by the LNER.
A lady of advanced years told me about this at the recent Mallard Grantham event and she does vividly remember Silver Link and the said toffees.

It would be nice to unwrap this mystery and get to the bottom of the bag.

There's nothing new about using sweets to promote a new product! Many businesses have used this over the years, and some Confectionery manufacturers specialise in 'dedicated' packaging - an example are the sweets sold at tourist outlets, stately homes and other historic sites. Even preserved railways now offer similar merchandise.

I suspect that the LNER commissioned a sweet manufacturer to produce 'give away' toffees for distribution at exhibitions. Is there any evidence of this being done elsewhere, or was something similar even offered on the streamlined trains?

A little railway aside to 'Silver' and 'beer': Don't know about now but when I was at Finsbury Park in the mid-1970s, opposite the main, Station Place entrance to the station (Up side), a possibly-slightly-dowdy hostelry named The Silver Bullet was part of the block of buildings just across the road, from where, occasionally, a temporarily missing member of staff could be retrieved.
