Hi there
I wonder if anyone out in LNER land can help me?
A very old friend of mine has what looks like an original LNER plate, somewhat rusty but surprising as it's been out in the garden for years.
Anyway, this is what it says:
LNER
STANDARD 12 TON
1938
COWLAIRS
219596
I wondered from my own brief research if it was a carriage on the London Underground as the time frame would seem to fit, but who knows?
Can anyone help?
Thanks in anticipation.

Sounds like a wagon plate
Re: LNER 219596
Not too sure on LNER wagon numbering sequences but it sounds like one of the 5-plank open diagrams, although I'd have expected a 13T rating, 12T being more usual for vans.

They were uprated to 13T during the war. Possible the painted capacity was amended but not the plate?
Re: LNER 219596
Of course they were [doh]; I was thinking the uprating only applied to 20T wagons. I can't see the figures on the plates being ground off.jwealleans wrote:They were uprated to 13T during the war. Possible the painted capacity was amended but not the plate?

It is a Diagram 92 12-ton fitted open wagon, six planks and 10 ft. wheelbase. As Jonathan says later rated 13 tons.
