Hi guys
Can anyone help me with a good image showing the tread pattern for 4472 if indeed she has one, I have searched high and low for a good close up and so far have failed. The tender is the main item that I need for now but I assume the engine would have the same. If not 4472, does anyone have an image of any A1/3 pacific from Doncaster works as I believe they would all be the same sharing the same workshops , I stand to be corrected of course if I have this wrong.
Regards
Pete

Hi Pete,
You have your answer in a photograph you posted here
viewtopic.php?f=11&t=8242#p79185. The tread pattern can be seen clearly enough formed in 1/4" snap head rivets. I've seen it on a drawing somewhere but I can't lay my hands on it at the moment.
Regards
Eddie

Hi Eddie
You know I hadn't spotted that...
think I had assumed it to be pixellation... do you know where I can get this drawing from?.. now that 4470 is more or less finished I'm back on to 4472 and wish to get the tender painted and finished before getting back to the engine proper. I know I can get 1/32 rivets and perhaps even 1/64...both are wrong now that I know their size of 1/4" thanks to you.... probably need something in between say 3/128 but 1/64 may do.. works out around 1:16 scale which although smaller is better than using something bigger or at least I think it does...will work it out proper later.
Thanks Eddie...I now have some inclination of what the step looked like.. much appreciated..
Pete

Hi Eddie
Did you by chance find the drawing you mentioned earlier and are you sure about the rivet size?...that size looks right when compared with the photo but just seems a little small for purpose when comparing suitably sized rivets along side the actual models steps... plus the fact that after painting they will be even less noticeable. The rivets that I thinking of using 1/32 are in fact still larger than 1/4 when scaled coming out at 0.79 mm instead of the required 0.56 mm. If there is such a drawing it would put my mind at ease before ordering over 1000 rivets..
kind regards
Pete

evening guys... to finish this thread I post here a picture of progress on my tender after fitting the rivets as to a photo I had previously posted and forgotten about but then kindly reminded of by 61962.
there are 1238 1/32 rivets on the 8 steps... let's just say it took a while...
regards
Pete

Lovely model. If LNER period? the Buffers Bodies should be Black.

Thanks Mick... I hear what your saying but I'm not entirely convinced that this was always the case.. some B&W photo's certainly look as if they could be red and then you have the preserved LNER livery loco's out there that seem to be in both colours not that this is any guarantee of authenticity. For now red will do me and if I do decide to go black it's a very quick change to do.
