The Great Northern Railway in Focus, John Crawley, page 116. It contained a suction pump driven by a Gardner 5hp petrol engine. Pipes on the outside connected to flexible pipes and cleaning heads which were used to draw dirt and dust from carriages.

A vacuum cleaner, in short.
