Hi all,

My wife is currently painting a shed scene which contains A1 WP Allen in 1948 and she has got to the smokebox number plate and I wondered if it should have a curly 6? All the photo's that I have managed to find are of later years - mostly in the 1960's where the 6 wasn't curly.

60114 had the rogue 6 on both the cabsides and front number plate when new!

Whenever I look at that, it is almost like looking through a window to the real scene outside.

That is one wonderful picture. It can almost be heard and smelled. Excellent!

A lovely evocative shot, indeed. Sadly, Pretty Polly is seen with a single lamp at the top of the smokebox door indicating that she was heading an "ordinary passenger train, mixed train or breakdown van train not going to clear the line. Branch passenger train." Such a shame.

Unfortunately, this was far from an isolated occurrence for these former express pacifics with a proud history of superb, fast mainline running.
