O4 numbers

Post by ROCKLEY »

I have just bought two O4's made by Bachmann from Hattons and I wish to change at least one of the numbers, maybe both of them.
All the reference books I have (Ian Allen lists) give the numbers in BR days starting with a 6.
I would like to find a list of the O4's with LNER numbers. Can any body help me please!
I fell in love with this class seeing them shedded at Barnsley WR in BR days looking rather the worst for wear.
My models will one day will run on an EM gauge layout with PO wagons.
As you see I am a new boy to the site and I look forward to learning from your expertise.

Ralph easiest answer is to look on the BRDatabase using the BR number as a reference, this will give you previous numbers. For 1946 to 1948 LNER numbers just remove the 6 from the BR number and you will get the four figure LNER number. For pre 1946 and GCR numbers i would suggest you look under the BR number in the database earlier numbers are displayed.
Hi interested in the area served by 52D. also researching colliery wagonways from same area.

Ay up. Rockley!

If you shop around, the 1941 abcs were republished a few years back which may help. However, you need to be aware that pre-renumbering, the LNER loco list was a random jumble of locos.

Welcome to the Forum Rockley!

RCTS Locomotives of the LNER Part 6B for tender engines - classes O1 to P2 contains the information you need (and much more) about 8-coupled engines. These guides can often be picked up on eBay quite cheaply and are an invaluable source of information.

If you can hang on until the weekend, I have just spent two weeks preparing the O4's for publication on BRDatabase and I have got all 647 of them to put up. That will include all of the ROD built ones and those loaned/purchased by the LNWR/LMS and GWR aswell as the GCR and LNER owned ones - all numbers, all known allocations (for the LNER ones at least) and all variations - I have drawn on Yeadon's two O4/O5 books aswell as his book on the LNWR freight tender locomotives, plus Baxter and RCTS GWR Absorbed engines - I'm just trying to finalise how to display all of that data in a meaningful manner!

If anyone has any knowledge about the fate of the ROD's sent abroad (whereabouts, scrappings etc...) please let me know!
