How about MACBETH 1606, the year quoted as the most likely, on Wikepedia

Keeping with the Macbeth theme (I assume that year is date of authorship - the real King lived a lot earlier), there's "Thane of Glamis". Macbeth was also "Thane of Cawdor" but Cawdor is outside of P2 territory.
If you're a royalist, then "Elizabeth of Glamis" is another Glamis option. Or for a republican, perhaps "Monster of Glamis" :-)

"Ghost of Banquo" and "Burnham Wood" would be further Macbeth names (I'm not sure where the real Burnham wood is, if there is one). Of course if you have a loco called "Burnham Wood", you just have to have a station called "Dunsinane"!

"Bridge of Tay" might be another option?

Hmmm a few good names here to pick from, thank you Richard.

I suspect that had more been added to the class then names previously carried by the NB Atlantics would have been used.

These of course later appeared on some A1s but:

Bon Accord

Bonnie Dundee

Auld Reekie

to give but a few then - other Scottish Heroes

John Knox

Robert the Bruce

William Wallace

Bonnie Prince Charlie (this could be a contentious one with Jacobite sympathisers)

Deacon Brodie

there are many more - assuming that Sir N didn't die when he did and more of the class were built.

Oh - and I have been looking for a suitable name for the station on my layout and you have given it to me - Dunsinane. Dunsinane is just a few miles along the ridge from where I reside!

I also wonder what a P2 would have looked like in BR lined black livery which had they survived would have been the course.

Not sure I agree - mixed traffic black? They'd have had express blue and then the dark green surely? They'd have been 8P based on their tractive effort alone (more than a Duchess). The liveries for the express locomotives was 8P had the express blue, 7P and below the dark green.

They were also used on the fast fish trains from Aberdeen to the south. I'm going by the V2 scenario where they came out first in black and then in green. It is of course only a matter of speculation. There is no guarantee had the class been enlarged that they would have been restricted to the Scottish Region? That puts a whole new set of circumstances into possible namings. As several ex LNER men were on the BTC naming panel it is not outwith the bounds of possibility that some may have carried names later used on the Britannias. I did read it somewhere years ago that it had been the intention to name all the V2s but the war stopped it.

A hell of a big job naming the V2s, still Schools and Regiments come to mind. Newcastle United may have been given back to a B17 and Essex Regiment given to a V2. Seriously though I wonder about the namings there are only a limited number of Schools or Regiments. Racehorses, Birds or directors were already used and Antelopes were to come. I suppose additional Sandringham type names could be used but i wouldnt have liked to see too many more Castles and Halls. A few pre grouping names could be thrown into the mix before the A1s were built as well as going through Mythology before they were used on electrics.
All the above were could have beens, so what would be your choice for a naming policy.
Hi interested in the area served by 52D. also researching colliery wagonways from same area.

Well, I've given my P2 drawing a quick coat of black and it looks awful so I haven't finished it. This old one of an A4 may give you an idea as to what it looks like: http://2509-silverlink.deviantart.com/g ... 2#/d50erpa

Have you looked through all of the names that have been suggested on the original new-build P2 thread(s) that can be found on this site?
Most subjects, models and techniques covered in this thread are now listed in various categories on page1

Dec. 2018: Almost all images that disappeared from my own thread following loss of free remote hosting are now restored.
