Green Arrow - the end is not in sight

A quick chat with Steve Davies today revealed that during his term in office, due to him having enough 'steamable' and 'to be restored' locos to keep track of, Green Arrow will not be resored but in the long term she is far from being stuffed and mounted. The best news was that he stated that the monoblock casting was not a problem. It would be kept in whilst Green Arrow is on static display and unsteamable, but upon a decision of restoration, three separately cast cylinders would be made with
inside steam pipes, to not detract from the V2's appearance

Np, BB
I would have talked to him more, but he had to rush off to a meeting. BTW, 5972 (outside with 4468) looks even worse than usual and a friend I came across has confirmed from looking underneath her, that West coast has completely k######d 5972

The catch here is when that decision might be. Could be looking at a good many years.
Three separate cylinder castings is a mighty expensive job; they'd better not mess up this one like they've done with a certain A3....

Perhaps 5972 has had to work that much harder for its living ("
Harry Potter" is a demanding master) than most other main-line certified engines? Could it be said that its treatment is closer to that which engines were worked in the years up to 1968?

True, she probably is. West coast has been promising 5972 on railtours which she's not been able to do

Hardly surprising. There is money to be earned, but everything has a finite life. If 5972 is unfit, what's to stop them commandeering another "Hall"?

5972 does have that appeal that it is THE Harry Potter engine, but it will be true, and fair, to say that any loco on the front end sporting the Hogwarts plates will be 'seen' as being the right engine in the eyes of young fans, as long as it is red. Unless of course the young fans happen to be extremely observant.

Hi Blackout
Thanks for the good news (so far as it goes). However, without a date, and following on from the Scotsman fiasco, I won't hold my breath. I'm 64 years old and I will be surprised if
I ever see it running again!!!

I'll be honest in that the very earliest I'd expect her to come back is 2025

Haha, I have to admit that I'd love to see her in early BR lined black with 'British Railways' on the tender - That's how my original (now overhauled) Bachmann 60800 is
