Apple green Deltic

Post by 60800 »

This is how I'd imagine the Deltics would have looked had nationalisation never happened: http://2509-silverlink.deviantart.com/g ... 8#/d549qnq

Constructive comments appreciated :)

The Deltic nose ends were very bulbous and in my opinion this detracted from their overall style. I wonder if the LNER design panel would have agreed on the overall black for that part of the body.

The rest looks quite smart though, but the change of height between the top bodyside lining and that below the cab windows might raise a pedantic eyebrow or two.

Sorry, that was not particularly constructive.

It raises an interesting tangenital question, concerning the direction of the motive power had the LNER received large amounts of compensation after the war in order to refurbish/re-equip its fleet. Maybe electrification a la Woodhead might have been the result?

That is an interesting question actually. There could have been a lot more EM2's, but in apple green :)

I tried different positions with the lining, but the current arrangement was the only one that looked 'right'.

This is pure guesswork, as I am no good at visualisation of these things, but what if you took the white paint from the cab windows and extended it along the top of the nose to around the position of the top lamp iron?

And then changed the rest to green. Would that look better, or hideous?

Not great from this perspective, but:

Then with a black nose:

I suppose that it is all about personal taste, but those don't look as bad as I feared. At least the nose is broken up a little. And if the white was replaced by the same shade of grey as the lining?.......

I think this might be never ending :)

Hi,
Given that the first Deltic was supplied as a loan item by EE to BR, and was painted blue with cat's whiskers on the nose, this is how I perceive it to run on the LNER.

In apple green of course, not blue.
Then again, garter blue is a natural for the LNER team, surely.

Ay up!

Here's an idea - why not put a yellow panel on it, shaped as per the A4's black nose with lining, then extend the apple green to the nose end?

Sorry BB, but I'm a bit confused about how to portray your idea, so I have these two:

Ay up!

The version of the prototype in apple green has me thinking.....

As for your two noses, the left hand one is exactly what I was thinking.

OR

Owzabout a Pendolino-style end?

When the ProtoDeltic was first completed, it was first painted in EE's house colours - basically green, with the cream whiskers, but was not actually displayed in public in that colour. It was painted blue in connection with publicity, and it was in that latter colour that it actually left the works.
