Hello,
Can anyone tell me if it possible to identify which tender was paired with 61156 in 1960, and if so where is the relevant information? Furthermore can anyone confirm that she was allocated to 30A at that time.
Many Thanks,
B

Yeadon Vol 6 covering the B1's quotes the following for allocations:-
To traffic 9/5/47, Gorton, Sheffield 13/6/54, Peterborough 29/9/57, March 31/1/60, Stratford 19/2/61, March 16/9/62 - Condemned 25/11/63

There is an introductory paragraph on Tenders but not specifically pairing a tender to this engine.

Thanks for the information regarding shed allocation, 61156 was the last B1 I ever saw on ex-GE metals. I wonder if specific information on loco/tender pairings actually exists?

The principal sources of information for all LNER locomotives that I have found invaluable are –
1. Railway Correspondence and Travel Society (RCTS) Locomotives of the LNER. The so-called ‘green books’;
2. Yeadon’s Register of LNER Locomotives;
The books specifically relating to the B1’s and their tenders are RCTS Locos of the LNER Part 2B – Tender engines Classes B1 – B19; Yeadon’s Register Volume 6 – Thompson B1 class; Yeadon’s Register of LNER Locomotives Appendix Two – Locomotive Tender Numbering.
The numbers allocated to the GS 4200 gallon tenders attached to the main batch of B1’s 61040 – 61409 were 4030 to 4399. Thus 1156/61156 when new would have had tender 4146. Whether this tender was still attached to 61156 in 1960 is another question.
Yeadon’s Register Vol 6 on B1’s states that during the ‘lifetime’ of the class more than half of the locos – 236 – kept the same tender to withdrawal. Unfortunately there is no list of these changes included.
This specific information, however, suggests that Willie Yeadon did have this information in his records/archives.

Thank you David, actually I have some of the sources you quote at home in Cyprus. Unfortunately not accessible as I am back in the Uk for the summer.
Regarding the tender number plates, I have been advised by Guilplates that the plate is too small to reproduce so I shall omit that detail. They also suggest '56 was paired with 4141 but no source quoted. Severn do not cover 61156 and will not supply as a one off (too many other commissions)
