Early Vs Late ???

Tried a search within the forum here but couldn't seem to find what I was looking for. Just wondering about the time scale covered by the change from the early BR totem to the late totem. I imagine it would have taken a fair amount of time to have changed all of BR's locos (or in most cases, their tenders.)
I've been making a bit of a collection of Haymarket locos in 00 gauge (as well a St. Margaret's and Dalry Road) and they are a mix of both early and late.
My association with these engines was from around 1956 until around 1961 (when I were a lad) so I'm assuming that I would have witnessed them with both early and late emblems on their tenders or tanks ?

Mid 1956 seems the date the new emblem was adopted.

Many express locos would have changed late 1956 to 1958, or beyond in some cases - dated photo evidence for your favourite locos is the only way to be sure.

The more humble types would have taken much longer, or been withdrawn before any change.

Yes, there is a video clip somewhere of a standard 2-6-2T on a railtour in 1966 and still having the pre-1956 crest.

Ay up!

That could have been the KWVR's 41241, withdrawn in 1967 still carrying the early crest.

I can only echo JASd17's comments here - photos are your friend. Some goods engines were being turned out as late as 1958 with early crests presumably to use up transfer stocks?

Thanks for your replies, guys.

That was what I suspected . . . or at least hoped for. Now I can get them in my display cabinet or run them in the loft as a mix of "earlies" and "lates" and not 'worry' about it !!!
