NER Snowplough build locations

Post by Bryan »

Whilst researching the NER Snowploughs, It is surprising that only 8 out of the
24 built have a confirmed build location. 4 at Gateshead and 4 at York with no confirmed location for the other 16.
Or that was the case as far as any record known so far. K Hoole publication and
K Hoole Centre records and NRM records have given to date.

I received recently some notes from someone who visited Holbeck, Mirfield and
Neville Hill sheds in the period 1966 to 1969 and he copied down detail from
the worksplates of the ex NER Snowploughs he saw.
One of which 900575 is listed as Gateshead 1909 however the other one 900576 has
the wording DARLINGTON 1909 The date of the notes is 22-10-69
These ploughs are numbers 21 (900575) and 22 (900576)
As far as I have been able to find out, all 4 0f the Steel bodied snowploughs were meant to have been built at Gateshead. This would seem to indicate that maybe Darlington had a hand in it as well.

Can anyone else confirm these details or throw on more light on construction
location.
