60800 Green Arrow; Help

Post by neilgow »

I saw and photographed 60800 at High Wycombe in and around the turn of the century. It was running a special and only went to HW. Returning to London tender first.

Can anyone be kind enough to be able to advise me of a likely date, I'm certain it was a Sunday. It might give me a clue as to where to look amongst my negatives and slides.

Many thanks.

For some reason, it's common mentality to hear "The turn of the century" as meaning around 1900. Well... it took me a while to get it through my head at least.

After looking around the internet, I found that the only time Green Arrow went only as far as HW around that era was on Sunday 14th March 2009, on the Marylebone shuttles, but it says "Marylebone-High Wycombe and return". Was it hauling the train tender first?

Thank you for your reply.

I am certain you are right.

We went to see the train, no doubts at all and in doing so I always take a camera. Search as I might through my files, negs and slides I cannot find any images. I shall persevere.

As to which way it worked tender first, I have a feeling it departed boiler first.

Again many thanks.

That's 1999  .

For some reason I've only got a shot of the first return run (tender first) at Northolt Park.

I think it all went a bit pear-shaped as the second trip ran ECS to Princes Risborough 'for water' according to my diary and to run round -- not allowed for in the times on UKsteam.

I've a ghostly long exposure shot of the second return run passing Northolt Park about 1815.

I seem to remember these only ran to Wycombe as it was inside the 35 mile (?) limit for tender first running.
