Thanks, 52D! I hadn't seen that one before. Lovely. All hail to those who possessed an 8-mil cine in those days long before i-phones, etc.

Yeah thanks 52D that was a GREAT place without doubt (before electrification spoiled it
)
I only remember Hitchin from about 1970 up to 1975 but it's 'glory days' were probably in the years before 1970 in the 1920s, 30s, 40s, 50s & 60s
Happy days...

Right on, Micky. My halcyon days in that area were 1954-59.

Hooray!! Thanks, 52D. Oddest train to my eyes is at about 00:30 as the A3 running light passes what appears to be a passenger train in the Up platform, the motive power is a humble EE Type 1 (Class 20). Don't recall seeing them on these jobs around Hitchin, although they regularly worked Dunstable branch trains in the summertime. Checked with a retired GN line relief signalman and he reckons it could be working vice the failure of one of the dreaded North British Type 2s, which weren't exactly reliable

If you type Hitchin into the search box towards the right top of the front page, you will be given a choice of six of these videos.
Not just 5 minutes of wonderful nostalgia, but getting on for 30 minutes.
I like the fact that the film is allowed to run as the coaching stock pass on the through trains, giving a great indication of the general make up of trains.
And if that is not enough, try experimenting with other ECML locations in the search box. I haven't tried many but I found 2 videos for Stevenage.
