Hi, I have just moved to Percy Main and I am interested to learn about the operations of Percy Main Station and the Depot and also about the freight lines which passed through the Village. I especially would like to see photos from all era's from the NER through LNER & BR and early Metro era. Its a fascinating subject but its quite hard to find decent articles and photos online.

Cheers Gary

As far as I'm aware the pub is closed down, I never knew it was an old station always thought it was part of the depot! I suppose its pretty apt that the North Tyneside Steam Railways station is on the site!

Cheers :)

the loco shed was to the south of the present metro station on the route down to the tyne commissioners quay that passed under the present metro line. the area behind the pub had two tracks leading to the blyth and tyne and the piece of land between had 4or 5 storage sidings .

There's something here: http://www.disused-stations.org.uk/p/pe ... ndex.shtml

The old Northumbrian Railways site had a lot more but it seems to have disappeared: http://www.northumbrian-railways.co.uk/

As well as the two electric lines, and the colliery and NCB ones, an interesting working through Percy Main was the boat train service to the Tyne Commission Quay.

Cheers for that, quite interesting that disused stations site, the Northumbrian Railways one seems to be no longer, but I'll try in a bit!

I did some detailed research into the Blyth and Tyne many years ago. Their station at Percy Main lay immediately south of the pub that was adjacent to the curve which linked the line with the NER. The station building was demolished prior to 1960 but I do not have a more accurate date. I recall that there was also an NER goods shed with a small overhanging roof slightly further to the south of the B&T station.
