Old Craven Park Hull
I have had an enquiry through the LNERCA web site regarding some 'Gresley' railways carriages that were situated at Craven Park Rugby League ground in Hull. This was the old ground used by Hull Kingston Rovers until 1989. I have done a bit of research on t'internet and found some photos that appear to show 3 suburban carriage bodies end to end in the 'Railway Stand' used as buffet and tote offices. The ground was demolished some time after 1989 and is now a Morrisons. Does anyone out there know what these carriages were and what happened to them? They could be Gresley but quite as easily be North Eastern ones as the photos are not clear enough. One thing for sure is that they were actually sat on concrete and under cover so might have been in good order.

Im sure they were recovered either by the NYMR or the GCR for fixtures and fittings ie door handles etc. ISTR reading about it at the time.
Hi interested in the area served by 52D. also researching colliery wagonways from same area.

I have had some responses from another source which I will share with you.
Three railway carriages were located at the ground on withdrawal in 1948. One was used as a buffet and the other 2 were used as tote boxes.
GCR Lavatory Brake Compo 1663 which had been the buffet was recovered is on the GCR(N) - see link on VCT site http://www.cs.vintagecarriagestrust.org ... sp?Ref=824
GCR full third 224? was dismantled for spares by the GCRCG.
Midland and North British Joint 3 compt brake third 118 was dismantled for spares by the Midland Railway Trust. This had been taken into LNER stock and was repainted in scumbled teak finish.
The 2 carriages that were scrapped both had no interior partitions and some body sections were missing. Apparently the back of the coaches were still in wartime painted brown lettered 'NE'. The ground closed in 1989 when Hull Kingston Rovers moved to a new site.
