Seem to remember a small section on this, presumably never built, locomotive in the Oakwood book on NER Electrics, accompanied by a small diagram. Are there any diagrams/drawings out there of this locomotive, and has anyone made a model of it?

See The Electric Locomotives of the North Eastern Railway, Hoole K., Oakwood Press, 1988, ISBN 085361 3672, pages 29-30. There's also an outline drawing shown. This book is long out of print but does show up at odd times on eBay. To date, it is the only reference source on the subject of all the NER electric locomotives.

There are no known photographs of this particular locomotive other than an interior view which is in the Ken Hoole photo library at Darlington. In almost 50 years of research on the NER electrification schemes, I have found no documents to support its construction, usage or disposal. Hoole states that it was tested on the section between Manors North and South Gosforth in 1923. I have no idea where he got that from, but if true, it is likely to have been late in that year as South Gosforth Car Sheds didn't open until October 1923.
