Everybody makes this statement but it's only true if you add 'from London to Edinburgh'. It always seems to be forgotten that simultaneously 'Shotover' also pulled the first non-stop, but from Edinburgh to London. One wonders why it's only the north bound one thats remembered?

Jeremy, the question was "did the Flying Scotsman ever pull the Flying Scotsman?" I believe I answered that rather succinctly.

The north bound train is normally remembered because it had 4472 at the head of its train, and was the much more publicized - and as far as my quick net research allows - the more photographed of the two trains.

Does anyone have a picture of Shotover on the southbound leg?
I was planning on repainting and renumbering a Hornby 4472 into another member of the fleet, I think we have a candidate.

My sentiments too. I looked through Yeadons and only found one shot of her and that was on shed highlighting the tender.

40 years apart. 4472 on the original non stop run and re-enacting it in 1968.
