Books on D49s?

Post by Tom F »

Evening Gents.

I'm looking for material on the D49s....compared to many LNER passenger locos, I can find very little other than RCTS book which I have, or the Yeadon Register.

Any help would be appreciated :)

Cheers

I have quite a soft spot for the D49s and have not found much apart from the two sources already mentioned. However there is a little in both the following books -

Nigel Gresley: Locomotive Engineer by FAS Brown

LNER Steam by OS Nock

Nock does mention a particularly good run with a heavily loaded train between Newcastle & Edinburgh; the driver was Norman McKillop aka Toram Beg, I think this crops up in several of his books.
