Good afternoon.
Does anyone have any pictures of the side(s) (of the above mentioned vehicles) not shown in the Harris books? In fact any pictures would do but the Harris volumes always show the same side.
Please note this is for the 'modified' (post 1958/59) coaches that lasted into the late 60s and some to the mid 70s. The NRM example (Coach 9135) seemingly lasted until 1979. However, it has sides matching the drawings of the original builds).
I am trying to ascertain whether this carriage was restored to original condition externally (the roof obviously was not) by the NRM or whether the 58/59 modifications did not include changes to the sides of this coach?
Any other details about the rebuilt D167 stock not noted in the Harris books would also be very useful.
I spent time in the NRM yesterday trying to dig out archive material but was obviously under prepared and could not find my way (despite help from staff) into the Coach drawings files. The young staff member I was dealing with had no knowledge about the history of coach in the Scotsman exhibition but was extremely helpful generally. I obviously need to go to the NRM 'armed' with a lot more detail before I ask for archives!
Thanks in advance,
P @ 36E

Every vehicle in the collection has a "file" containing information relating to the restoration of the vehicle. This might give you valuable information about that specific vehicle. Another source of information is to ask to see the NRM file LNER/23 from the LNER carriage photo catalogue. This includes photos of some of the rebuilt vehicles. Whether drawings exist for the rebuilds I cannot say. They are not, to my knowledge, in the LNER C&W Drawing Indexes.

Having rebuilt E9128E back to its original 1937 condition (as 51769) back in the 1980s I did a lot of research. All of the preserved cars had the BR 58/59 rebuild. During the rebuild they fitted various types of Mk1 buffet interior with laminate surfaces and enclosed and lockable bar area. On the bar side of the vehicle the three windows behind the bar were boarded over and the full size kitchen window replaced by a 1/2 window. The last three cars E9128E, E9115E and W9135E were all withdrawn in the spring of 1977. The NRM car W9135E was the first one to be unrebuilt. However much of the interior is a mongrel as it's the BR interior reworked. Our car E9128E was unrebuilt to the earlier 1933 less austere interior specification (mainly due to the lack of material available in the NRM archives) the only drawings we had to hand were the earlier type. The NYMR's car (E9129E/641) was the first to be rebuilt to 1937 spec. followed by the SVR Car (E9131E/643). The GCR has three cars, E9124E in traffic in its rebuilt condition in BR maroon and E9122E/24278 in works being unrebuilt in teak and E9116E/24080 awaiting attention. E9132E/644 is also being unrebuilt at Bo'ness. There are several others scattered about in preservation in various states of disrepair but mostly in the rebuilt state. When we removed the BR 58/59 boarding we were pleasantly surprised to find all of the original framing and window apertures in place.

Brilliant gentlemen. Why did I not come here earlier?
Thank you so much for your time and with permission I will make notes of the whereabouts of the remaining rebuilt coaches.

I don't suppose anyone happens to know which of these Buffet Cars was regularly rostered in through workings on the East Suffolk line in the 1960s?
