:-)

So they're also skipping BR Express Blue completely? That is one that would be worth seeing as well.

Hear Hear! I don't think they've dropped the idea of BR Blue, but the order of repaints has been changed. The A1s looked great in BR Blue.

And so it should remain. Long live the LNER :!: Brunswick green belongs in the West Country, on locomotives whose style is stuck in the Churchward mould.

Mr b, it was a temporary change of pace between the apple green and the brunswick, due to Tornado being put in for her winter maintenance. Why on earth would anyone hire a signwriter for a one off, half hour photography event?! :?:

The vinyls are absolutely fine for what they were required for.

I must say tornado looks fantastic in LNER apple green! I know none of the class ever carried the livery but you have to admit she does suit it. I can understand why most people want her in brunswick as thats what they remember but i feel its dull just like gods worst railway  I can just imagine a line up of Tornado,Blue Peter and Flying Scotsman in LNER green with Mallard in LNER blue! Now thats a picture!
As I said I know the first two never carried it but we can deam.
Then again most would want all of the above in brunswick just as they remember it.
:D

It could just be due to the lighting but Tornado as LNER 163 now looks a much darker green than that it has carried so far. My understanding was that its previous lighter colour was LNER Apple Green. Many A1s first entered traffic in that shade, albeit with BRITISH RAILWAYS lettering on the tender, as did Blue Peter. So it's not quite true to say that none of them ever carried Apple Green livery. The change to BR blue was made about halfway through the construction period. It's in matters such as this that us oldies have the advantage of younger people who omly saw Brunswick Green.

I'm not too fussed if it was canary yellow but please get rid of that chimney casting and put a proper lipped one on as per the 1960's.

It quite spoils the look of the engine, in fact ugly springs to mind.

I think you will find that the shade of green is due to the light. Looking at the background in one photo it appears to be late afternoon and the loco is standing in the shade.

Personally I want to see Brunswick, which is the only livery I saw them in, although the Blue would be something 'different' and it would fill a gap in my 'knowledge'. The problem (for me) is, living on the south coast, actually seeing it since I think she is only going to carry it for one season. (I had the same problem with Duchess of Sutherland in Black, I missed it!!) Even if she gets here, railtours normally run on Saturdays and I work five out of six.

End of 'sob story'

Happy New Year to all
