For those carriages of 9' 3" width - which I understand to be over the handles at around waist height - what is the width over mouldings at the bottom of the side? After studying a drawing posted by Dave in a recent thread on guard's vans I suspect that the width which I am seeking may well be shown on an official drawing as the sum of several parts, being:-
* twice the moulding thickness;
* twice the panel thickness;
* width over top edge of bottomside member.
The reason for this request is to ensure that I get the sides / ends of JLTRT kits to the correct dimension given that there is material to be removed in cleaning the respective resin mouldings.
thank you, Graham Beare

Taken from drawing 13231D, Corridor Third (Dia 115)
7' between bottomsides, add 9" for each bottomside plus 3/4" for two teak beads, gives 8' 6 3/4" overall.
The body panels are rebated into the bottomsides so should not be added.
Other useful dimensions are,
8' 11 1/4" over pillars
8' 9 1/2" over cant rails
8' 10 1/2" over cornices
9' 3" over door handles

Thank you for the information as requested and for the extra details. I had noticed the reference to "over pillars" on a section view and I am not sure where this applies on a Gresley - can you explain?4493 wrote:Taken from drawing 13231D, Corridor Third (Dia 115)

Over pillars (in this instance) refers to the widest point on the vertical body pillars, at the waist rail.
The pillars are shaped to the body profile, hence 8' 9 1/2" at cant rail, then straight to 8' 11 1/4" at waist rail then curved through the tumbleholme to 8' 6" at the bottomsides.
Hope this helps

Graham.
I've looked at my drawings and the reply from 4493 states it all.
I did a quick sketch to show this.
