Can anyone shed some light as to wether this loco is being overhauled at the moment ?
It would be nice to see some pictures of Tornado standing next to the A2 from last night as i believe the A1 visited Barrow Hill shed. Don't suppose they happened to throw in an A4 as well for the pics ?!
Anyone for a Kings X - Edinburgh Waverley and return by A1, A2, A3 and an A4 ???

NELPG are indeed planning to begin work on the overhaul of 60532 as time and funds permit. I understand however that much work is needed on the boiler and firebox as part of the general overhaul and that an estimated figure for the repairs is some £500,000.

Think that's planned for next year - IIRC the magazines were saying they were hoping to Get Tornado, Blue Peter and 2 x A4's lined up for an event at Barrow Hill.

Not a great photograph, but I'm sure the digi lads will get a "better" shot!
If you're interested 60034, 60052, 60530 and 60121 at St Margarets on 03 July 1965

Not true.
As things stand the Drurys (owners-but not spelt like that) are in talks with someone who the nymr found who is willing to finance the restorastion. The overhaul would probably be contracted out.
NELPG would just be the support crew.

Hello, I notice that you refer to Blue Peter as number 532
My understanding is that Blue Peter came out of the Doncater works in March 1948 with the BR number 60532 and never held the LNER number 532 .
I also understand that Blue Peter was originally liveried in Doncaster ( apple ) green for a few months before being repainted in BR green . is this correct ?

Hello,
Yes you are indeed correct as far as i'm aware on both counts.
The locomotive was out shopped by the newly formed British Railways on the 25th March 1948, painted in apple-green of the old LNER but numbered 60532 with 'British Railways' on its tender sides
The number 532 was applied after preservation as a fictional number when it moved to the Dinting railway centre.
Heres hoping that the money can be raised to ensure that this loco can once again run on the main line.

Sorry Cuddie, but it is a great photo to me. Here we have four stalwarts in their working clothes, sleeves rolled up waiting to get on the job, not all prettied up and posed for a mugshot. This captures a lost era. You don't see general grime around railways these days, but it's part of what makes this a great photo. No matter what the "digi lads" will get with their perfect white balance, superfine detail, etc., for me, they're doomed to fall well short of the atmosphere caught in this one.

I coudn't agree more giner their on home territory and steaming for the LNER,
even if the A1's and A2's are after the LNER. Although, scenes like this are but a memory we'll see their sister's again on home ground soon.
Full Steam Ahead!

I should have said quality-wise, not content and context. Although I must add that the chevron is not 100% authentic as Neville encouraged the shed foreman to expedite matters a little! Given the date of the picture, this must have been one of the last occasions this scene was possible.

I have heard on the grapevine that Jeremy Hoskins has bought Blue Peter, if true, I should think that he will have it running again as a priority. Here's hoping.
Anyone else heard about this?

According to this month's Stean Railway, JH has denied buying Blue Peter.

I have been asking around on this topic because my original source was very reliable. The consensus is that JH has bought 532, it is likely that a smokescreen (denial) was sent up during his negotiations. It would be nice to see absolute confirmation of the purchase, however.
Mr H's track record (pun intended) on restoration of his steam fleet is very good, so I am very hopeful that we will see her in steam in the not too distant future.

Oh well, here's hoping.
And while we are waiting, here is one I prepared earlier.
At Didcot Railway Centre in 1985.
