J15 allocations in the 1930s

Post by Jamie R »

Hello,

I was wondering if anyone could tell me whether there were any dual-fitted J15s allocated to New England, Peterborough East or March sheds in the 1930s, please.

Thanks,

Jamie

Only just noticed this post and "approved" it per my neglected moderator's duties. Sorry for the delay. Others with suitable knowledge may now see it and respond.
Most subjects, models and techniques covered in this thread are now listed in various categories on page1

Hello Jamie,

The following steam-braked J15s were vacuum-fitted between 1932 and 1935:

65356 (2/1933); 65390 (5/1933); 65391 (6/1932); 65405 (4/1932); 65424 (5/1933); 65432 (1/1935); 65438 (7/1934)

The following J15s were dual-fitted (Westo & vacuum) when built:

65440-4; 65450-79

The following J15s were Westo-fitted as built and had the vacuum brake fitted between 1931 and 1932 (the gap in the above series):

65445 (9/1931); 65446 (1/1932); 65447 (2/1932); 65448 (11/1931); 65449 (2/1932)

You can check the individual allocation histories of each locomotive at www.brdatabase.info - use the quick search box on the left

Thank you very much for that information, 65447. I've had a look at BRDatabase but unfortunately it doesn't seem to cover the LNER era allocations.

The locos I'm looking at are 7542-71 and 7640-9.

Thanks again,

Jamie

Yeadons suggest that only

65356 March 1927-36 and Peterborough East 36-39
or 65432 March to 1935 Cambridge thereafter.
