Livery colour for Railway Hand Cranes and runners?
Hello all,
Another of my shelf queens that is now nearing completion is a hand crane with a couple of runners. What I am a bit stumped with is what colour they were painted by both the LNER and later by BR?
This is the crane that I am building - it's now in primer but currently masked up so difficult to take a photo. Although generic in design, looking through the Tatlow LNER wagons books, it does bear a passing resemblance to an ex GCR example. It's also similar to the ex GNR example in Locomotion so either will be good enough for me.
Any assistance will be greatly appreciated.

Sorry, can't go and check at the moment!
This picture must be a fairly old one, but it was the same colour before the most recent lockdown!
I know nothing about GNR service vehicle colours, nor the provenance of this item.
I do remember that some (but not all) of the axlebox covers are marked 'LNE'.

Steam Cranes were Black lined Red, no idea if the same for Hand Cranes. I would have MId Grey is the safest bet.

Thanks Caroline,
I have quite a few photos of the crane and match truck at locomotion but what I am not sure of is what the livery it's in represents. It's possibly GNR?
Thanks Mick,
Like you I knew that steam cranes were lined black but wasn't sure if hand cranes were the same.

I have suggested Grey (Mid) as a easy bet to paint over, if further info appears !!.

Good call Mick, I like your thinking.
As it happens I have had a request to buy it in engineers black, so that's what it's going to end up in.
Thanks again for the assistance it's much appreciated.
