Thought this very nice 1904 postcard image I acquired of a typical North Eastern Railway 0-6-0 might be of interest. Great for detail of the crew, although I bet the bucket on the footplate wasn't intentional! I believe the photo is taken at Selby (the postmark is Selby) and it was sent to a relative or close friend of someone in the image at Cleckheaton.

I believe the lamp arrangement means 'through goods train'

In 1904, 2057 was only four years old, having been built at Darlington in 1900 and still sporting the saxon green livery with white/black/white lining. In 1946 it was renumbered 5708, becoming 65708 in BR days, ending its days at Sunderland before being retired and scrapped in 1956. Some more info on 2057 on the BR Database here http://brdatabase.info/locoqry.php?acti ... &loco=2057 , but would appreciate anything further regarding the history of the engine

On 1.1.23 No 2057 was allocated to Selby, and on 31.12.47 (as No 5708) to Darlington. No doubt Yeadon's Register has more.
