Am I right in thinking that there were limited operations of push-pull in some areas?
If so can anyone point me to photo's and the type of stock/loco used

Have a look under disused stations South Howden station. On the old Hull / Barnsley railway.
Details shown of the service from Hull which ended in something like 1955.
Service was run by G 5 loco with 2 coaches push pull fitted. Photo's on the web site of the unit involved.

This ... on this forum.... shows a G5 fitted with push pull gear. At the start of the LNER there were still G6s fitted for exNER 'autocoach' operations.

There were 'Auto-Train' ('push-pull') services in a number of areas at various times, with some services pre-dating Grouping although not necessarily surviving it.

The stock used was either of pre-Grouping types, principally ex-GCR, ex-GER and ex-NER, whilst the remainder was converted from standard LNER carriages, either by conversion of the Brake section to include a Driving Compartment or simply by the addition of the requisite through connections for the controls. Such conversions or additions were made to Gresley teak-panelled 51' vehicles and latterly to Thompson steel-panelled vehicles, all being non-vestibuled (non-gangwayed).

Similarly various types of locomotive - pre-Grouping and LNER types - were from time to time fitted with the control equipment, which sometimes resulted in the appearance of various classes far away from their usual lines.

Auto-Trains were to be found on former GC, GE, GN, NE and NB lines.

The carriages and workings are fully described in an article by Clive Carter in British Railway Journal 32, with additional notes in BRJ 35.

Sorry to bump the thread; but does anyone know of any photographs or diagrams of the actual controls of NER and LNER push-pull cabs (specifically carriages that would have been used with BTPs and G5s)? I've been looking for ages without much success.
