Locomotive Nameplate Mounting

I expect everyone else on here knows this, but it was a surprise to me!
The other three group companies attached nameplates to their locos in a very simple way; drilled holes in the plate, bolts through plate and bracket, nut on back. Simple.
I've recently been to a few railwayana auctions and, looking at the nameplates on offer, noticed for the first time that, when viewed from the front, a B1 nameplate does not have any holes in it. Judiciously lifting one to see the back revealed tapped holes in the back - presumably set screws were threaded through from inside the smokebox (and as an aside I think that might pose a challenge or two).
I then realised that A3 nameplates do not have through holes; how are they fixed? The answer is that there are angle brackets cast integrally with the plate to mount on the splasher.
Sorted. Except that K2 nameplates have through holes....
Be honest; did you know? (Maybe you didn't know that you didn't mind not knowing)
