What form did Esparto Grass (used in paper making) take was it in Bales or bundles and what rolling stock transported it. Did it have to be kept dry? I have been looking at a few old pics of Chirnside paper Mill and apart from open wagons of coal and one bogie bolster the wagons all seem to be of the 12 Ton ventilated generic type.

I grew up beside the Deeside line which had esparto traffic to Culter Paper Mill. Definitely not sheeted over and a certain amount of the straw could be found by the lineside after the passing of the train.
