Hello To All

One question to ask you guys on here. Where would have Hush Hush have of been based during early 1959? I know it was in the BR brunswick green and it was removed from service in June 1959.

Thanks Lachlan

Hello Lachlan,

The W1 was based at Doncaster from October 1953 until its withdrawl in June 1959.

The choice of Doncaster may have been dictated by its extra length which may have limited its choice of turntables and the existence of a convenient turning triangle beside the shed. It was strange to see a Pacific parked at the end of the triangle which was surrounded by allotments.

Have a look towards the bottom of this page. Gilbert's layout is set in 1958 and he's researched the workings quite thoroughly. I'd be prepared to take his word that this was the regular working for the W1 at that time.
