Avery weighing machine vans

Were the vans used by Avery/ Pooley counted as departmental stock, and painted as such, or did they just receive the standard grey paint if unfitted - thinking in terms also of such as the 8T ex NBR which were used as weighing machine vans.

Thanks - so would that have been red oxide for NB and Blue for LNER?
