'Luckie Mucklebackit'

Post by Kestrel »

I had an email from Hatton's today to say that D11/2 6385 'Luckie Mucklebackit' in LNER black had arrived from Bachmann. That's a trip o'er the Mersey booked for Friday.

Looks very OTT on the thick red lining on Luckie.
I have never seen spectacles surrounds , or the area underneath the cab roof lined in red on the front of/or cab sides. Not to sure about the tender raves either must dig some books out re that area. I think the buffer beam would have lined in white as well, another check to be done.

Hornby have done so much better lining on the Black LNER B1.

I need to check on LNER being smaller than 6385.

Small LNER and unlined buffer beam both OK for Cowlairs. Red could have been toned down a bit.

Thanks Silver Fox, could we do with losing some of the red altogether?

The only colour reference I have is LNER in Colour. No D11's a couple of Back GCR Atlantics neither show any evidence of lining in the areas I have mentioned already.

i bow to your knowledge mick, but looking at fig 109 in RCTS 3B (a b/w pic of 6399 Allan-Bane in c1935) there looks as if there is some lining on the cab sides but there isn't any white on the buffer beam, in fact none of the D11s shown seem to have white edging.

Sorry I was referring to the red lining , no white lining in the photos in LNER in Colour.

Take a look at the GER 4-4-0s 8835 and 8891 for the cab side window lining, and the 'Coffee Pot' 7230 for a lined out spectacle plate. So Stratford (presumably) got up to such things, Cowlairs may well have done likewise on occasion?

The red line thickness looks overweight to me too. But it is visually prominent on the obviously newly painted locos, especially 8835.

None of those Locos are in my copy (2002 issue). Stratford and Cowlairs appear to be mavericks as was Darlington :D :D

For reference, I bought my RCTS book(s) in 1981.

Picked up 'Luckie' today and the 'bold' lining isn't as bold as it appears in the pics.

Hallo Kestrel, I don't know if you want DCC, but his/her sister "Edie Ochiltree" is on offer at 85.00 GBP there.
