I am looking to number a model of one of these locos and require a number for a loco in or around the Grantham area in the mid to late 30's. Anyone with a Yeadons who could help please?

I have some 1930's Railway Observers.
The 1935 collection has the allocation report for Grantham and has two J52s listed; 4217 & 4278.
Will that be suitable? I can look at the other years if you like but I expect it won't have change much at that time.

I'm sorry this isn't very helpful but according to RCTS 8A, there was 1 at Grantham at Grouping, 2 in 1935 and 3 with BR in 1948.
Unfortunately, the only number referred to in that area is that No 4253 was at Boston from March 1939 to November 1940.

Not quite the answer you're looking for but I have a copy of Locomotives Illustrated 166 which shows J52 4224 outside New England shed in 1938, J54 3637 at Grantham station c. 1926 and J54 3635A at Grantham station c. 1926. That's the nearest I could get.

Afternoon all
A quick look at my books and 4217 and 4278 were both at Grantham from 30's onward, probably until withdrawal.
However, 4278 had a flared rear to the bunker and only two coal rails, whilst 4217 had tapered buffers.
There were so many variations in J52's that a pic from the time modelled is needed.

1210 at Grantham, Challenger Publications, LNER Locomotive allocations 1st January 1923(The First Day). Add 3000 for first LNER number. To back up Kestrels post above.
