I have just been going through some earlier posts in answer to a query I made last year on the above subject and Saint Johnstoun kindly put up some photos including a Red lined Black V1/V3 (??) number 2911. Was this one of a large series of numbers in the '29' range and were they all Black with Red lining (and were there any specific dates in the LNER period it/they would have run?).
Many thanks.

Re: V1/3 LNER Livery
The green book 9B says:-
28 V1s were built 1930-31 and numbered 2900-27
6 from 1934-35 and numbered 2928-33
and then there was an assortment
10 from 1935 numbered 417/46/77/9/81/4/6/7/97/8
18 from 1935-46 numbered 402/14/5/6/8, 2897, 419/22/3/8/40, 2898, 454/5/61/5/6, 2899
20 from 1938-39 numbered 404/7/20/4/5/47/8/51/67/9/72/8/80/3/5/8-91/6
10 V3s were built 1939-40 and numbered 390-3/5-9, 401
In 1946 they were renumbered 7600-91 in order of building.
When new all, including the V3 s built after the war had broken out, had red lining to their black paint. War time austerity saw the change from LNER to NE on their tanks and the disappearance of the red lining.

Dear The Snapper, As an outsider, I was still fascinated to come across your great pages here. In case it's of any interest, I offer you an non-LNER name to beat them all? "Jeremiah Dixon Son Of County Durham Surveyor Of The Mason-Dixon Line USA" 73 characters. I found it on Martin Loader's site <http://www.hondawanderer.com/Industrial_Diesels.htm> . All the best, Jean-Paul.Graeme Leary wrote:I have just been going through some earlier posts in answer to a query I made last year on the above subject and Saint Johnstoun kindly put up some photos including a Red lined Black V1/V3 (??) number 2911. Yes, you could just be correct. I think that does beat 'The Snapper The East Yorkshire Regiment The Duke of York's Own' but what size locomotive carried that name (and how many workers were needed to lift the nameplate, if in fact there was one, and hold it whilst it was being fixed?)
Graeme Leary (and The Snapper as a non-de-plume hasn't gained any traction - maybe I should persevere)
