I would have loved to have seen her working, especially up the hill at Worsborough.

Good morning all
Sadly, I never saw the Gresley Garratt, nor even the LMS Garratt. However, the pics that I've seen of the Gresley Garratt working, show it working hard behind an O4, belching out steam and smoke.
I don't know if there were any bridges in the Worborough area that attracted train spotters for the noise must have been fantastic. The two beats of the O4 exhaust followed by the six beats of the Garratt exhaust.
When I have some idle time (virtually non-existent), I may even try and re-create the sound. If I take the sound of a two cylinder loco (to represent the O4) and fade it into three overlapping examples of the same (to represent the Garratt).
I will not attempt to re-create sound from the incident on the Lickey where a LMS Garratt hauled train was banked by the Gresley Garratt and the LMS Big Bertha. That would be ten cylinders and twenty power strokes to each revolution of the wheels.

Now that would have been a never to be forgotten spectacle.
Witnessed by Patrick Ransome-Wallis, if I am not mistaken.
