Afternoon all

I have seen reference to a two volume work by E.M.Johnson on Great Central Locomotives.
I am wondering if it worthwhile buying the books for modelling information as they are not cheap?
Does anyone have an opinion of their usefulness?

Because there are so few "works drawings" of GC locos. they have value. Vol 2 is pretty much solely large Robinson locos, whilst Vol 1 has some of the smaller locos. However, it is important to remember they do not cover MS&L locos at all.

I know there are drawings in Manchester at MOSI, but they are quite expensive, and not necessarily as clear as one would like.

But it depends on your interest and how big your wallet is

Thanks for the information, Paul. I bought a four volume history of the GNR last year on your recommendation. I still haven't read every volume completely, but they're great to dip into.
Volume One sounds as it could be useful.

As some one who has both these volumes and who models the GC period I can heartily recommend both books.
Vol 1 covers from 1897, so does include a good few ex MS&L class's , such as , D6, D7, N4, N5, F1, F2, .
Vol 2 starts in 1911 and goes through to grouping as well as delving into some of the post grouping Robinson class's built.
