Thank you 73D.
I could not see from the photo's posted that you could tell if the 2 was correct or incorrect due to the angles of the pics and the curviture of the front, how could you make a propper assumption when the lead photo of Bittern on this feed shows most of the top of the 2 obscured by the light reflecting off the casing.

Can't wait to get a pic tomorrow

I enlarged the picture then drew a curve representing the turn under. Then the curve was placed in line with the top of the '2'. From this it is evident the base of the '2' in not in line with the top and is too far back.

Yes, it's still out of whack.

Thanks for the pic. and drawing, 73D. The '2' in the drawing is certainly not the Gill Sans '2' that I worked with. And I can't think of any variation in the font family that had that elongated bar at the bottom - it's disproportionate to the rest of the character.

Oh, and the baseline of the type on the new paint job is still approx. 1" high.

The letterspacing, which is too gappy on the new paint job, is, strangely, closer to the steel cutout cabside numbers on the original 4492 in 73D's photo.

Thanks Simon, very nice to see. Complete with a matching water-wagon I note, a thoroughly sensible idea at last re-adopted, saving embarrassing calls for extra water from the local fire brigade one might hope.

Osprey: Are those dates at the NRM definirte by the way?

My pal sent me a photo of her on the down slow through Arlesey this morning. Looking gorgeous. The comment he jokingly made was, "We'll have to see if we can get Langley troughs reinstated."

G'Day Gents

Thank you for posting the video of 4492? leaving KX, Simierski, very enjoyable, but on another note, is that a skyscraper of 'portacabins' in the old loco yard? the other thing being, is'n't KX turning Green, weeds everywhere, they never stood a chance years ago with all the diesel being spilt all over the place. Time 'methinks' to get the weedkiller train to KX :P

Am in the process of linking some pics I took this morning, all I can say is locomotives like this make you wish you were a passed steam driver on the main line! Kings Cross (the buildings are being tarted up) shame about those pesky bits of metal & concrete/wood with weeds growing amongst them!

Great pics, lar. I liked that the 'water wagon' was lopped off.

I think that Garter Blue is a stand-out. Congratulations to all involved, and thanks for the videos.
I recently had a Hornby Dublo model professionally repainted in the garter blue, and even that was amazing. Never seen one before in the flesh.

Kimball
