All that matters is that the loco has to be authentic for the period it represents.

That's why the K1 in apple green livery is 'wrong' and possibly Tornado as well (was 60162 first turned out in apple green?).

Tornado, physically is authentic due to the stovepipe chimney for apple green. Of course, as numbered 60163, she would of course been turned out in blue IF she had been built in 1949.

She wasn't, so her owners (and covenators included) can paint her any colour they like, as far as I am concerned.

I think you are referring to the K4 when you say K1 - the great marquess. Her apple green livery is correct, though her build date suggests she would have worn it in 38-39, and then possibly 45-49, so the time period for which this is "authentic" is incredibly short. It is still authentic, mind.

Don't be so picky about Deflectors, livery etc on the SCOTSMAN-it'll be a small miracle if she runs again anyway.I wouldn't be surprised to see the new-build PATRIOT running first.
Bring back Ferrybridge station!

I hope there's a little tongue in cheek there!

Considering the Patriot project has only just cut the frames and has the, ah, small matter of a boiler to fund yet, I sincerely doubt that!

But kudos to them - they've come a very long way in a year, and here's to them completing "The Unknown Warrior" in due course. :)

Were the K4s ever painted apple green?

Or were they mixed-traffic lined black?

Do I sense a bit of the hypothetical there? If I am wrong, by all means, correct me :)

The K1 also ran in green, at the same time as the k4

And if you check page 75 of Heritage Railway this month - note a certain letter has been printed, amongst the other livery letters... :)

Midland Red if you must, but surely the tint should be apple green?

I agree getting 4472 back in action is the priority, but single chimney and no deflectors would be ideal. And if it sticks to the S&C there'll be gale blowing most of the time so smoke drift shouldn't be a problem.
