Re: Toad D Danglings
Attached extracts from LNER drwg 12041D (Darlington) for a 20ton Goods Brake Van 1924.
I know it's a short wb van but the principals should be the same I don't have anything for the long wb version.
Looking forward to some pics of the van Brian.

Dave,
Interesting drawings, thanks for posting them. The drawings relate to an unfitted brake van. The bit I can't work out is how a vacuum cylinder fits into such a scheme. I'm hoping that Bryan can get a couple of photos so that all can be revealed!
Regards,
Vernon

Does anyone have an update on Tatlow 4b - which will hopefully contain answers to such questions?

Vernon,
The drawings were mainly for 65447 as it may help answer how the handbrake was connected, hopefuly the answer to the vac brake question will be answered soon .

Re: Toad D Danglings
I communicated with Peter Tatlow recently on another matter and took the opportunity to enquire. Apparently Peter had a pleasant conversation with the publisher about it but nothing more definite as to timescale. As before, it always helps if the publisher gets a sufficient volume of enquiries that suggest reasonable sales, so a shame that Wild Swan doesn't make contact easy.drmditch wrote:Does anyone have an update on Tatlow 4b - which will hopefully contain answers to such questions?
In that other place there was/is someone who had direct contact with Wild Swan/Paul Karau; anyone similarly placed on this forum?
I doubt though that 4B will go into that amount of detail, but I will make enquiries of Peter.

Ok
I have managed to get some photos. We will have to see if they are what you need.

Re: Toad D Danglings
Bryan,
Thank you very much for your postings. There's all sorts of interesting detail there.
The key one for me is in batch 4 where you can see the linkage between the brake column and the vacuum lever. Interestingly, the clutched lever is "hiding" behind the inner vee-hangar - that's why you can't see it from the side!
Excellent work, thanks again. That shows the value of this friendly and helpful site.

Re: Toad D Danglings
Thank you Bryan a very useful set of photo's.
Interesting to see the stove flue pipe looks like a standard 3" cast iron rwp pipe by the joint above the stove, is it a modern replacement ?.

Re: Toad D Danglings
Re the stove.
Its what was in when we acquired it.
Up to now we have mainly concentrated on keeping our fleet of wagons working as they generally form the Civil Engineers fleet of working wagons.
We accept that they will get bumped, battered and have some damage caused by digger buckets because that is the nature of the work.
However recently we have started to go deeper into the restoration and up the quality of the final appearance.
At the moment we open to offers about anyone wanting to recreate a typical 60s Teeside Steel Plate wagon train. We now have 6 Plate wagons all matching, those with the Brake Van and a 24, 25 or possibly some form of Steam Loco of the local network Q6 etc.

Re: Toad D Danglings
Slightly off topic but can anybody tell me why there are sometimes two lower tail lamp irons on LNER/early BR Brake vans when the later builds only have one ?
