A4s valences

As far as I know, and according to all the published data including the photograph taken by my grandfather, the A4 locomotive originally numbered 2512 was named 'Silver Fox'. I have an OO model version of it as built that is just like the photograph taken by my grandfather.

Ay up!

I got the numbers mixed up - sorry.

Anyway, 2512 was the first built without the recessed coupling.
If I ain't here, I'm in Bilston, scoffing decent chips at last!!!!

Even worse - I too have a model of Silver Fox! In silver....

Note to self - ensure brain is in gear befor releasing mouth or, in this case, flying fingers....

'Tis alright BB, I often get Quicksilver and Silver king mixed up when it comes to the BR numbers :oops:

Hi Brian,

While it is of no great importance now, the debate about recessed couplers is probably problematic. Anyway, I dug up your grandfather's photograph from the 2009 post, what a beauty. What a privilege to have a little bit of your family like that, still in existence.

About the recessed couplers. One book has it that all 4 Silver engines, which were constructed in 1935, were built with the recessed coupler and shortened buffers, but all were converted sometime in 1936. Which still makes the date (8 July 1936) of your g'fathers photo perfectly sensible.

Ive added some valences to have correct runing and in doing have put it on the outside thus making the front more realistic.HD changed the valve gear from the prewar version to post war version making the valves gear inline with the body so was unable to fix them inbetween the cutouts .
