Possibly in an attempt to lift smoke clear? An A4 has the same slight dip in the boiler cladding just behind the chimney.

I thought it was either to do with smoke lifting or the loading gauge myself.

Back on to the restoration possibilities, are there any major parts like cylinders etc that need replacing, or is it just 'the usual' that's needed?

The present quotation that I have come across is £500,000 to return her to mainline standard.

I'm actually leaning towards this answer, as Tornados dome doesn't sport the same 'dent', and it is much less apparent when looking at photos of Blue Peter in BR Dark Green; and there doesn't seem to be the dent at all on other photos of A2s.

EDIT: Upon more thought, perhaps the dome casing is simply losing a bit of structural integrity, causing it to sag a little in the middle?

Re Blue Peter at Barrow Hill, I can confirm it was very 'healthy' as in the attached photo. I promise no Digital magic has taken place!!!

I'm afraid that's rather hard to believe, although it would be wonderful

But.......... am I seeing things here, or is there really steam coming from her chimney?

How did they fire her up then?

It seems quite reckless to me, unless they somehow had the safety valves wide open so that no pressure built up.

Ay up!

At a guess the boiler was empty with rags burning in the grate.

As for your piccie of 532 working hard? There wouldn't happened to have been a certain A1 hiding behind her, would there?

Yes oily rags on the grate is the usual trick. They even did that to Locomotion No.1 in 1925...

I can pretty much assure you that there is another Pacific hiding behind Blue Peter...

I believe that the middle cylinder is in need of replacement. I too would love to see 60532 back on the main line, but it's not looking good at present, is it? At least she's being looked after at BH
