The only one which always stands out as a perennial favourite of mine is the Peppercorn A1. Underrated machine in service, incredible machine in preservation. 'Nuff said.

But there again, I find myself going through periods where certain designs suddenly jump out at you. I'm loving the Thompson Pacifics at the moment, but truth be told I love the look of all the ECML Pacifics. There's something about those shared aesthetic features like the smokebox doors, the overall proportions and the round topped, wide firebox boilers.

For my eye, the B12 always had a certain appeal. I just liked the way they 'sat' on the rails. The proportions looked about right to me. Peppercorn pacifics, too, delighted my eye. Aw Jeez, I loved 'em all.

Hi All,

Having accepted the disqualification of the classic’s and Pacific classes, my favorite is V2. It’s such a handsome look and for me comes with impressive performance and a remarkable history.

Here is a link to my RTR V2 on Shed (I know it’s not an accurate model, but it’s the only one I got).

But when it comes to tank loco, it would have to be the V1/3. Another great looking and well-proportioned tank loco design.

Ay up!

As for the W1, Gresley always referred to it as a 4-6-4 so if its good enough for The Great Man...

As to my fave "Division 2" engines: I'm undecided between three. The V2, B1 and K1. All lovely, middling-powered mixed traffic workhorses.

Probably the V2. Magnificent!

For me, it has to be any of the B16's and definitely the K3. Both sadly missed.

I would say the V2, especially Green Arrow...but I think it is too famous! It may not have been excluded at the start of this thread, but sticking to the spirit of the question, I think it's too well known/loved.

So, I'll go with the K classes and the J72s.

V4 - wasn't that the Rolls Royce to do the job of a Ford car?

But didn't it have style! Pity one dodn't survive. 8)

I have an admiration for the N2s. A well proportioned looking workhorse. Mainstay of the GN suburban services.

G'Day Gents

Oh dear ! so many to choose from, top of the list V2, P2 and P1, but I also have a soft spot for J52, J50 and J6, I have so many memories of the J52's shunting at Bounds Green CS, ahhh, I can smell them already

Hm, I'd have to go different to you lot... I think my favourite loco of all is one of either the NER Q6, Q7 or J27.

I'd have to agree with that, considering I have that certain soft spot for old greeny. Good to know she's well loved though, and not just seen as a knock off of scotsman. You wouldn't believe the stuff I've heard random people say about her when walking round her at the NRM

F3. Last survivor still working short express turns (Beccles - Lowestoft) in 1950ish! Or you can have it with a tender if you prefer (E4).

But if you mean Gresley engines it'd be K3 or V4. Fond as I am of B17's they were something of a hybrid, and they didn't age well. The V4 could have done the same jobs much better.
