Don't forget the Cliffe (Kent) - Uddingston (Glasgow) cement train of the early '60s, which traversed the ECML. This was a pair of Class 33s throughout.

But where did it join the GN mainline, Finsbury Park or Harringay?? Both are on a fairly steep gradient, so there would have been plenty of noise from those 33's I know our 31's made enough noise to wake the dead coming past Finsbury Park depot at 0230 with the Welwyn wheat trains :P
