As you can pretty much guess, Episode 4 of North Eastern Steam intends to document the Gresley Pacifics from 1923-1964, Dominon of Canada will have a role to play in the pre war years, hence I wish to get the whistle right

I was just listening to a CD of Grantham at night from a Peter Handford tape recording and decided to see if any ones, that I did not have, had been released recently.rob237 wrote:There is also an Argo Transacord LP (title name eludes me) which includes the 60013 chime, as it slowly passes Peterborough on the down Elizabethan. I'll have a search around...

No. 13's chime whistle features on a Peter Handford CD issued by SPV a few years ago under the title "Working on the Footplate". This is a six track CD with an unedited recording on the footplate of the A4 from Grantham to Stoke summit. Very atmospheric. I can rip a few seconds of the start of the track if anyone is interested in hearing the very distinctive chime.rob237 wrote:There is also an Argo Transacord LP (title name eludes me) which includes the 60013 chime, as it slowly passes Peterborough on the down Elizabethan. Unfortunately the CD does not appear in SPV's current on-line catalogue. Some other "Sounds of the Steam Age" recordings appear to be available and at the very reasonable price of £8-10 each.

Yes please! That would be very interesting - how would you do that? Would you provide a link from the forum?brsince78 wrote:No. 13's chime whistle features on a Peter Handford CD issued by SPV a few years ago under the title "Working on the Footplate". I've attached the first few seconds as an MP3 file. You can hear the driver say "Come on old girl" as he opens the regulator (the train had arrived 28 late due to poor coal) before the chime is heard:-2002EarlMarischal wrote:Yes please! Compare it to No.19's chime (which I use as a ring tone on my mobile!):-

It is quite a lot lower in tone.

Brilliant - many thanks! I quite like the idea of an A4 whistle as a telephone ringtone! (Visions of people running to the windows of their offices adjacent to railway lines to see what's about to go by! )brsince78 wrote:I've attached the first few seconds as an MP3 file. Ay up!
I got Tornado's chime as my ringtone most of the time. Drives Mrs BB up the wall, so it does!
Anyway 60013 had a New Zealand whistle, presented my NZ. Dominion of Canada had a CP whistle donated by Canadian Pacifc. Sounds really mellow.
