I think they're older than they claim to be.

The pictures in the preservation section of the A4 page on this site were taken a couple of years ago. Rather different, although they are from a distance:

I have contact with someone who lives fairly close to the museum and was involved with the cosmetic restoration of the Terrier they also have. I've asked him to have a look at this thread and comment - after all, he can go down there and see for himself.

That's great that you know someone on the ground in Montreal. I'd have a gander myself, but I live 2,240 miles away - not exactly down the road.

Thanks Jonathan. I am actually a 2 hour drive from Montreal (200 klm), so just down the road really .
Here is a photo I took in July 2005 when my friends and I were at the museum working on Waddon. She is in the building where she is on permanent display. Interesting to think she has been here for 42 years now, and only worked for 28 in the UK. The paintwork is still the original, as applied by BR at Crewe in 1967. I wonder how many other "preserved" steam locomotives can say the same. City of Birimingham comes to mind.
Incidentlly ALL the connecting rods were taken off before shipping, and I guess they were unable to refit the center one.
As for the "sinister" lack of a mention on their web site, there is no inventory list on the web site of any of the exhibits of, over 160 Locomotives, Streecars and rolling stock, at this fascinating museum, including Waddon and the ex SNCF "Bourbonais" class, 0-6-0 loco. So I wouldn't read too much into that.

Here is another photo also taken in July 05 when 60010, ex LBSCR Waddon and the SNCF "Bourbonais" class loco were all featured in a special weekend event called Hidden Treasures of Europe. It heralded Waddon's return to display after restoration and gave the other two loco's a rare day out in the sun. As I mentioned in an earlier posting, 60010 is in need of cosmetic restoration. A fact that the CRHA are well aware of, and hopefully funding to do so can soon be made available. I am only a volunteer (and a CRHA member), so am not privy to such decisions.
It is interesting to note the nameplate which is not a brass casting, but individual letters fixed to a backing board. There was some thought here that this was not original, but I have seen photos in BR days showing the same plates in use on the loco. As you can see the motion is well protected by grease and the loco's were all oiled around before the move

Hi giner, nothing yet to report, it's a bit of a "hurry up and wait" situation, with other jobs, that were already ahead in the line for the limited workshop space, slowly working through. A friend and I were down at the museum two weeks ago doing some maintenance on Waddon (see photo), and there have been some positive improvements to the building she is on display in. The roof has been coated with a water proof membrane which has stopped up some drips from around bolt holes. The floor has been coated with sealer that should keep the dust down a bit and the lighting has been upgraded with more floods and the introduction of spot lights. D of C has steel steps and walkways, so that visitors can go through the cab and the corridor tender (see photo). There is also now much better signage in front of the locomotives, explaining about the locomotives on view. It might not sound like much to those of you used to the accomplishments of the UK preservation industry, but for a small museum, with a equally small budget (no lottery fund over here!), it is a positive sign.
I will keep you posted as to our progress.

The photos show one of the other two guys that made up the Waddon restoration team, at work, and in the back ground is D of C, now with the cods mouth open to show the smokebox arrangement.
I also took a snap of the speedometer, as I recall some discussion on the group about them, but can't now recall the details.

Looks like the casing could do with a bit of cutting compound and waxing. Good luck to you - that looks like hard work to me!

The speedo is a standard fit Smiths Stone unit, as fitted to many hundreds of other locos in BR days.
