Coudn't agree more. Athough, Mr Cameron could lower the locomotive safety requirements so she can run on preserved lines. So we could still get another two years out of her? :?: Though when it comes down to it the mainline is where she's best at :D

But the a4s are a lot limited on the presevered lines but theres no point here ruining the image of the A4s with breakdowns and such we want here to run so well the driver strugles to keep here under the limit not that the driver strugles to stop here dammaging hereself.

Today i've read the latest Steam Railway Magazine which revealed my worst fears.

According to Mr Cameron there is speculation about whether Union could run ever again, surley losing Green Arrow was bad enough, but another.

May there still be hope for the old girl yet

There seems to be some hope for 60009, Steam Dreams are proposing to run "The Coronation" 3 day railtour in May next year, and No 9 is pencilled in for the Edinburgh - Newcastle leg on the 18th. The other two loco's used will be 60019 and 60007.

I was speaking to one of the surpport crew, and they said that the ticket runs out in 2010, that she will be running again at easter time (maybe before maybe after) and that when her ticket runs out she won't be overhauled by john, but just put in a museam.

Hello Jonathan Stead

"she won't be overhauled by john, but just put in a museam.[/quote]

Surely isn't there another alternitive, if Mr Cameron can't afford her anymore here could sell her to a perserved railway or an owner that can ensure she's kept alive in the future? :(

It's bad enough we've lost Green Arrow, and with 3 A4's already out of action how long is it till we have no A4's running. If we keep withdrawing our locomotives the only LNER engines we're likely to have is Flying Scotsman and Tornado.

I dont think so the LNER is well represented in classes that are almost ready to return to steam but pressure meeds to be applied to maintain an xp interest.
Hi interested in the area served by 52D. also researching colliery wagonways from same area.

Why all the doom and gloom?
Has no one read the latest Steam railway?
Eastern News Page 35?
STOP PRESS: 'Union' back for 'Great Briton'

Celebrity Gresley A4 No. 60009 Union of South Africa will return to the mainline, owner John Cameron has decided.
The LNER Pacific is to undergo work this winter aimed at preventing a repeat of 2008's air brake failures. It should be back by April Mr Cameron told SR.

I read that too :) I'm glad she'll be back for next year. Although what I was concerned about was her long term future, in terms of whether she would continue to run on the mainline or be on static display like Mallard. :?:

Hi there,

I very pleased Union of South Africa is back in steam and going to Barrow Hill. However, I'm still worried that her future is still in question; although she is back at present is there plans at all to overhual her once her ticket finishes? :?:

I was wondering if anyone would have any information with regards this aspect? :D

Thanks everbody!
