Hi All
Yeadon Volume 47 Part A provides records of the North Eastern C Class or J21 0-6-0. The comment is often made that North Eastern locomotives didn't operate outside of their region, yet No 26/5070/65070 spent twenty one continuous years outside of the region, leaving Kirkby Stephen for Lincoln; renumbered as 5070 whilst at Immingham on 11/05/46; and renumbered again to 65070 whilst at Retford on 19/11/48, before returning to Darlington and its native North East.
I would therefore be very interested & appreciate it if colleagues could confirm the region/area (GC, GE, or GN) of the following sheds from where it operated during its time away:
Lincoln (06/08/31 - )
New Holland (09/05/32 - )
Norwich (10/09/32 - )
Lowestoft (09/10/32 - )
Norwich (30/08/36 - )
New England (02/06/37 - )
Grantham (07/08/37 - )
Boston (11/12/38 - )
Langwith Junction (11/07/39 - )
Lincoln (18/04/42 - )
Immingham (09/08/43 - )
New England (14/07/46 - )
Grantham (30/04/47 - )
Retford (13/07/47 - )
Doncaster ( 28/11/48 - )
Retford (16/11/49 - )
Darlington (16/11/52 - ) North East
Colleagues may also be interested that No 26 entered traffic in January 1891, and was finally condemned & cut up at Darlington on 05/09/60 - Just short of seventy years service, and a few miles to its credit.
Regards

Re: The much travelled J21 No 26
I believe New Holland / Immingham / Langwith would all be GC section sheds, Boston / Grantham / New England for instance certainly being GN section.
I should know Lincoln too, but I'm not sure of its status after the former GN, GC & GE interests in Lincoln came under a single LNER command.

Re: The much travelled J21 No 26
Good morning all
The records that I have on my three favorite railways (GN, GC, & NE) show the following:
Lincoln (06/08/31 - ) GN/GC until 39
New Holland (09/05/32 - ) GC
Norwich (10/09/32 - ) GE
Lowestoft (09/10/32 - ) GE
Norwich (30/08/36 - ) GE
New England (02/06/37 - ) GN
Grantham (07/08/37 - ) GN
Boston (11/12/38 - ) GN
Langwith Junction (11/07/39 - ) GC
Lincoln (18/04/42 - ) (Holmes GN)
Immingham (09/08/43 - ) GC
New England (14/07/46 - ) GN
Grantham (30/04/47 - ) GN
Retford (13/07/47 - ) GC
Doncaster ( 28/11/48 - ) GN
Retford (16/11/49 - ) GC
Darlington (16/11/52 - ) North East NE
Retford GN became subshed of Retford GC
In 1939 engines and men at Lincoln GC were moved to Lincolm GN.
I do not know when Retford GN became a subshed of Retford GC.
